ODEY ROVERS CRICKET
14th April 2010 - ODEY WEALTH MANAGEMENT BECOMES ROVERS’ TWELTH MAN
JUST a fortnight before the start of the 2010 season, Rovers Cricket Club has secured Odey Wealth Management as its sponsor. The three year deal will see the Port Soif based club become known as Odey Rovers in the Evening League fixture and Odey ORs for the Afternoon League, the Channel Islands’ League and the new Monday night elite Twenty20 league. Odey ORs will be a combined Optimists and Rovers team.
‘We are absolutely delighted that Odey Wealth Management has stepped forward to become our sponsor. As a relatively new company to the island, Odey has already been extremely successful and we hope that we can emulate that success on the cricket pitch over the next three years. We knew it was going to be a challenge to secure sponsorship in this economic climate but to find a company of Odey’s calibre is fantastic,’ said Rover AC Director and Cricket Secretary Paul Porter.
All of the club’s new Evening League and Afternoon League kit will be branded with Odey’s logo which will also exclusively feature on the new scorer’s shelter which is being constructed at Port Soif.
Rovers Cricket Club is first major sponsorship deal in Guernsey for Odey Wealth Management, which manages private portfolios for clients and runs the Odey Opportunity Fund.
‘Cricket is a game that is popular with our founder Crispin Odey and so when we heard that Rovers were looking for a new sponsor, we were keen to lend our assistance. Rovers is a team with a long and distinguished history in the local game and has produced many leading local stars, including former county cricketer Lee Savident,’ said Geoff Marson, Managing Director of Odey Wealth Management (C.I.) Ltd and Portfolio Manager of the Odey Opportunity Fund. ‘The club has worked very hard to develop the cricket facilities at Port Soif to a very high standard and we are delighted to be able to help Rovers take the club further forward over the next three seasons.’
